The Lore of Ergus

Death & Resurrection

We’ve released a few teasers about the Wells, so now is a good time to delve into the concept of death within the world of Ergus.

First, let’s discuss player death and the mechanics of resurrection in Resurgence LARP. In our game, the death of a player’s character is designed to have a meaningful impact on the narrative, but it shouldn’t hinder your overall enjoyment. When your character meets their demise, you will go to the Well, follow any directions on the yellow card (including record your name in the log), and take a minute to reform. In between events, you might receive notifications about how these resurrections affect your character. There are no limits or tallies of deaths, and nothing will prevent you from continuing to play the character you’ve invested in. The system is all about the consequences that come with death.

From an in-game perspective, this type of resurrection is peculiar and far from the norm. In Ergus, when people pass away, it’s considered a permanent and irreversible event. Their physical form eventually transforms into a spirit, moves to a Well, and they are never encountered again. There isn’t a known explanation for why the Awakened are the exception to this rule. You can choose to explore this mystery or simply embrace your character’s fate as you see fit.

However, there might be situations where you, as a player, believe your character’s death should be permanent. Perhaps your character made a sacrifice that wouldn’t carry the same weight if they were simply resurrected, or maybe you prefer a more challenging experience and have set your own limit on resurrections. If that’s the case, please inform one of our staff members instead of going to the Well, and we will guide you through the process.
