The Lore of Ergus

What is Ergus?

Part One, The Continent of Ergus

The established territories within the landmass of Ergus are decided between seven recognized nations. The lands unclaimed by these seven nations are relegated as the wylds. In the wylds, a significant number of governed and ungoverned groups with smaller spheres of influence exist, ranging in from small nomadic villages and settlements to unincorporated cities and minor nations.

These seven independent nations with combined majority influence over Ergus each have distinct forms of government in diverse biomes. The landscapes of Ergus have uniqueness in their features, from the Ice Crystal Plains that glimmer with a faint iridescent sheen, to the desert to the Painted Sands where grains of sand in every conceivable color can be found. The most refined ornate architecture of ingenious sparkling and industrious design can be seen in the trade city of Sarova. The darkest murky swamps are found in Lodour, and the lush, rolling hills of Merkadia are skirted by the foreboding Gloodwoods. From the immense and jagged peaks of the Onyx Isles, to the Red Crags where blackened chasms of lava never cease to flow, there is surreal wonder to be found in Ergus.

Part Two, The History of Ergus

Hundreds of years ago, the unified Council of Nations knew immense prosperity, built from the richly magical nature of their world. The magic of this time was full of potential for greatness, and those who earned the title Sorcerer were some of the most powerful practitioners of magic.

On a night called The Reckoning, the magic of the lands was ripped from existence, ending the existence of Sorcerers across the land and forever changing every aspect of life for the people of Ergus.

It has been a century of strife and rebuilding for the seven independent nations of Ergus.

Despite magic never being recovered, the nations and wylds have begun to flourish again. As the people of Ergus have adapted to life without magic, they abandoned their oldest and greatest tool. As time passed, and it became clear magic would not soon return, the knowledge of magic faded from truth to myth.

Part Three, The Hero of Ergus

As the world enters a new era of prosperity, you find yourself to have notable differences from the other people of Ergus. You could be drastically more talented with a sword than your peers, perhaps your alchemy is decidedly more potent, or your powers manifest in ways that have not been seen for centuries.

Whether you became aware of your innate gifts as a young child, or the onset of your bizarre abilities has been recent, you have reached the conclusion that these powers can be explained.

Magic has been returned to Ergus, and your  powers could sway the course of history.
